Mia Hamm

Mia Hamm, born on March 17, 1972, in Selma, Alabama, is one of the most celebrated female soccer players in history. She played forward for the United States women's national soccer team from 1987 to 2004. Hamm won two FIFA Women's World Cup titles in 1991 and 1999 and earned two Olympic gold medals in 1996 and 2004. She was named FIFA World Player of the Year in 2001 and 2002. With 158 international goals, she held the world record for most international goals scored by any player, male or female, until 2013. Hamm co-founded the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA), the first professional women’s soccer league in the United States.
