Oprah Winfrey, born January 29, 1954, is a media mogul and philanthropist. She is best known for her talk show, "The Oprah Winfrey Show," which aired from 1986 to 2011 and became the highest-rated television program of its kind in history. In 1993, her interview with Michael Jackson became the most-watched interview ever, drawing an audience of 90 million. Winfrey co-founded the women's cable television network Oxygen in 1998 and launched her own network, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), in 2011. She is also notable for her influential book club, which has significantly impacted the publishing industry. Winfrey's role in producing and acting in the film "The Color Purple" (1985) earned her an Academy Award nomination.
