Swami Vivekananda

Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902) was a key figure in introducing Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world. Born Narendranath Datta in Kolkata, he was a chief disciple of the Indian mystic Ramakrishna. In 1893, he delivered a powerful speech at the Parliament of the World's Religions in Chicago, starting with "Sisters and brothers of America," which earned him widespread acclaim. He founded the Ramakrishna Mission in 1897, focusing on social service and education. Vivekananda's notable works include his book "Raja Yoga," which demystifies the practice of yoga, and his lectures on the four paths of yoga. He passed away at the young age of 39, leaving a significant mark on both Eastern and Western spiritual landscapes.
