Bill Ackman, born May 11, 1966, is an American investor and hedge fund manager. He founded Pershing Square Capital Management in 2004, a firm known for its activist investing strategies. Ackman gained widespread attention for his short position against MBIA, a financial services company, during the 2008 financial crisis, predicting its collapse due to risky mortgage-backed securities.
In 2012, Ackman famously took a $1 billion short position against Herbalife, labeling it a pyramid scheme, though this position was later covered at a loss. Ackman also played a pivotal role in the turnaround of Canadian Pacific Railway, where his strategic initiatives helped significantly improve the company's performance.
