Frida Kahlo

Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) was a Mexican painter known for her striking self-portraits and vibrant use of color. Her work, deeply rooted in Mexican culture and personal experiences, includes the celebrated paintings "The Two Fridas" (1939) and "Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird" (1940). Born on July 6, 1907, in Coyoacán, Mexico City, Kahlo suffered from polio as a child and later sustained severe injuries in a bus accident at the age of 18. Despite her physical pain, she produced more than 140 paintings, primarily self-portraits that explore themes of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race in Mexican society. In 1939, the Louvre acquired her painting "The Frame," marking the first work by a 20th-century Mexican artist to be included in its collection.
