Travis Kalanick, born on August 6, 1976, is an American entrepreneur best known as the co-founder and former CEO of Uber Technologies Inc. Kalanick co-founded Uber in 2009, revolutionizing the transportation industry with the ride-hailing platform that operates worldwide. Under his leadership, Uber expanded rapidly, reaching numerous cities globally and significantly altering urban transportation.
Prior to Uber, Kalanick founded Red Swoosh, a peer-to-peer file-sharing company, which Akamai Technologies acquired in 2007. During his tenure at Uber, Kalanick faced numerous controversies but was instrumental in scaling the company to a valuation exceeding $50 billion by 2015. He resigned as CEO in 2017 amidst increasing scrutiny and internal challenges.
