Marie Curie, born Maria Skłodowska on November 7, 1867, in Warsaw, Congress Poland, is best known for her pioneering research on radioactivity. In 1898, she and her husband Pierre Curie discovered the elements polonium and radium, fundamentally advancing the field of atomic physics. She became the first woman to win a Nobel Prize in 1903 for Physics, shared with Pierre Curie and Henri Becquerel for their work on radioactivity. Curie achieved another historic milestone in 1911 by winning the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for her discovery of radium and polonium and her study of their properties. She remains the only person to win Nobel Prizes in two different scientific fields. Marie Curie died on July 4, 1934, from aplastic anemia, likely caused by prolonged exposure to radiation. less
