Biography
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (1892-1973) was an English writer and professor, best known for his high-fantasy works "The Hobbit" (1937) and "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy (1954-1955). An Oxford professor of Anglo-Saxon, he significantly contributed to the academic study of Old and Middle English.
Tolkien's creation of Middle-earth, with its rich languages and history, marked a pivotal moment in fantasy literature. His 1937 children's book, "The Hobbit," introduced readers to the world of hobbits, wizards, and dragons. This was followed by "The Lord of the Rings," a complex epic that expanded his mythical universe.
In 1972, he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II.
