Woody Hayes

Woody Hayes was a prominent American football coach, most famously associated with Ohio State University. He served as the head coach from 1951 to 1978, leading the Buckeyes to five national championships and thirteen Big Ten Conference titles. Hayes was born on February 14, 1913, and his tenure at Ohio State is marked by his innovative strategies and intense coaching style. In 1954, Hayes guided the Buckeyes to an undefeated season, culminating in a victory at the Rose Bowl and a national championship. Another highlight came in 1968, when Ohio State again claimed the national title after a perfect season and a decisive Rose Bowl win against USC. Hayes's career ended in controversy after an incident in the 1978 Gator Bowl when he struck an opposing player, leading to his dismissal.
