Aung San Suu Kyi

Aung San Suu Kyi, born June 19, 1945, is a Burmese politician and Nobel Peace Prize laureate. She is most notable for her leadership of the National League for Democracy (NLD) in Myanmar and her prolonged house arrest under the military junta. Suu Kyi played a pivotal role in Myanmar's transition from military rule to partial democracy. In 1991, she received the Nobel Peace Prize for her non-violent struggle for democracy and human rights. After her release from house arrest in 2010, she led the NLD to a landslide victory in the 2015 general elections. However, her tenure faced international criticism due to her handling of the Rohingya crisis.
