Biography
Gandalf, a prominent character in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium, is best known as a central figure in "The Hobbit" (1937) and "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy (1954-1955). As a wizard and member of the Istari, Gandalf played a crucial role in the War of the Ring. In 2941 of the Third Age, he orchestrated the quest to reclaim Erebor from the dragon Smaug, which is detailed in "The Hobbit." During the War of the Ring, he led the Fellowship of the Ring and was pivotal in the defeat of Sauron. Notable achievements include his transformation from Gandalf the Grey to Gandalf the White after his battle with the Balrog in Moria.
