Golda Meir

Golda Meir (1898-1978) served as the fourth Prime Minister of Israel from 1969 to 1974, making her one of the first women to lead a modern nation. Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, she emigrated to the United States before moving to Palestine in 1921. Meir played a crucial role in the founding of the State of Israel, signing the Israeli Declaration of Independence in 1948. As Prime Minister, she was instrumental during the Yom Kippur War of 1973, leading the country through one of its most challenging periods. Her tenure also saw significant developments in Israel's foreign relations and social policies. She resigned in 1974 following the war's aftermath and passed away in 1978.
