Henri Cartier Bresson

Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004) was a pioneering French photographer, often hailed as the father of modern photojournalism. He co-founded Magnum Photos in 1947, a cooperative agency that redefined documentary photography. His 1952 book "The Decisive Moment" established his philosophy of capturing spontaneous, fleeting instances. Cartier-Bresson's iconic 1932 photograph "Behind the Gare Saint-Lazare" exemplifies his skill in capturing the essence of a moment. He covered significant historical events, including the Spanish Civil War and the liberation of Paris during World War II. In 1981, he received the Grand Prix National de la Photographie in France. Cartier-Bresson's work remains a cornerstone in photography, focusing on life’s candid and ephemeral moments.
