Jimmy Wales

Jimmy Wales, born August 7, 1966, is an American-British internet entrepreneur, best known as the co-founder of Wikipedia, the world's largest and most popular general reference work on the internet. In 2001, along with Larry Sanger, Wales launched Wikipedia, revolutionizing access to information with its open-editing model. Prior to Wikipedia, he founded Bomis, a web portal, in the late 1990s. In 2006, Time magazine named Wales one of the "100 Most Influential People in the World" for his role in the creation of Wikipedia. He also launched the for-profit company Wikia (now Fandom) in 2004, which hosts collaborative wikis on various topics.
