Khalil Gibran (1883-1931) was a Lebanese-American writer, poet, and visual artist, best known for his book "The Prophet," published in 1923. This philosophical work, composed of 26 poetic essays, has been translated into over 100 languages and remains in print worldwide. Born in the town of Bsharri in the Ottoman Empire, Gibran emigrated with his family to the United States in 1895, settling in Boston.
Apart from "The Prophet," Gibran's other notable works include "The Madman" (1918) and "Sand and Foam" (1926). He also exhibited his drawings and paintings in notable galleries in Paris and New York. Gibran passed away in 1931 in New York City. less
