Biography
Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564) was an Italian sculptor, painter, and architect. He is most celebrated for his statue of David (1501-1504), a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture. Another significant work is the Sistine Chapel ceiling (1508-1512) in Vatican City, which includes the iconic Creation of Adam. Michelangelo’s Last Judgment fresco (1536-1541) on the Sistine Chapel’s altar wall further solidified his reputation. In architecture, he designed the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, completed after his death. Michelangelo's work is distinguished by its expressive detail and technical skill. He died in Rome at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy of unparalleled artistic achievement.
