Paul Valery

Paul Valéry (1871-1945) was a French poet, essayist, and philosopher. He is best known for his collection of poems "La Jeune Parque" (1917), which earned critical acclaim for its intricate symbolism and lyrical beauty. Born in Sète, France, Valéry's early works were influenced by the Symbolist movement. In 1924, he published "Le Cimetière marin," a meditation on life, death, and the sea, which is considered one of his masterpieces. Valéry also wrote extensively on intellectual and artistic theory, with "Monsieur Teste" (1896) showcasing his philosophical prowess through a fictional character's introspective narrative. Elected to the Académie Française in 1925, Valéry contributed significantly to French literature and thought. He passed away on July 20, 1945, in Paris.
