Bernard M Baruch

Bernard M. Baruch (1870-1965) was a prominent American financier, stock market speculator, statesman, and political consultant. Born on August 19, 1870, in Camden, South Carolina, Baruch amassed a fortune on the New York Stock Exchange before turning to public service. In 1918, President Woodrow Wilson appointed him as the chairman of the War Industries Board, where he played a crucial role in the U.S. mobilization for World War I. Baruch also served as a key advisor during World War II and was influential in the development of economic policies. In 1946, he presented the Baruch Plan to the United Nations, which proposed international control over atomic energy and aimed to prevent nuclear proliferation. Baruch’s legacy includes contributions to both military and economic strategies, marking him as a significant figure in early 20th-century American history. He passed away on June 20, 1965, in New York City.
