John Galsworthy (1867–1933) was an English novelist and playwright, best known for his series of novels known as The Forsyte Saga. Born on August 14, 1867, in Kingston Hill, Surrey, Galsworthy initially trained as a barrister before turning to writing. His notable works include "The Man of Property" (1906), the first book in The Forsyte Saga, which critically examines the upper-middle-class society of his time. In 1932, he received the Nobel Prize in Literature for his distinguished art of narration. Galsworthy also made significant contributions to social reform through his plays, including "Justice" (1910), which influenced prison reform in Britain. He died on January 31, 1933. less
