Joseph Campbell

Joseph Campbell (1904–1987) was an American professor, writer, and orator, best known for his work in comparative mythology and comparative religion. His seminal book, "The Hero with a Thousand Faces" (1949), introduced the concept of the monomyth, or the "hero's journey," a narrative template found in myths and stories across cultures and time periods. Campbell also collaborated with Bill Moyers on the influential television series "The Power of Myth" (1988), which brought his theories to a wider audience. He taught at Sarah Lawrence College for nearly four decades, where he inspired many students with his lectures on mythology. Campbell's extensive work in the field of mythology remains a cornerstone in the study of narrative structures.
