Michael Porter

Michael E. Porter, born May 23, 1947, is a leading authority on competitive strategy and economic development. He is best known for his seminal work, "Competitive Strategy: Techniques for Analyzing Industries and Competitors," published in 1980. This book introduced the five forces framework, a tool now fundamental to business strategy. In 1985, Porter further advanced the field with "Competitive Advantage: Creating and Sustaining Superior Performance," introducing the concept of the value chain. Porter has also significantly contributed to the theory of clusters in regional economic development, particularly through his 1990 work, "The Competitive Advantage of Nations." He has held a long-standing professorship at Harvard Business School, where he continues to influence business strategy and economic policy.
