Michel Odent, born in 1930, is a French obstetrician who pioneered water births and home-like birthing environments in hospitals. In the 1970s, he established the first birthing pool in a hospital setting at the Pithiviers Hospital in France. Odent also authored several influential books, including "Birth Reborn" (1984) and "The Scientification of Love" (1999). He founded the Primal Health Research Centre in London, focusing on the long-term health effects of early birth experiences. Odent's innovative practices and research have significantly shaped modern maternity care.
