Oscar Wilde

Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) was an Irish playwright, poet, and author, celebrated for his wit and flamboyant style. He is best known for his novel "The Picture of Dorian Gray" (1890) and his comedic plays, particularly "The Importance of Being Earnest" (1895). Wilde's literary career flourished in the late 19th century, with his works often critiquing Victorian society. In addition to his novel and plays, Wilde achieved notoriety with his collection of fairy tales, "The Happy Prince and Other Tales" (1888). His arrest and subsequent imprisonment for gross indecency in 1895 marked a significant downturn in his life, leading to his early death in 1900.
