Saint Augustine

Saint Augustine of Hippo (354-430 AD) was a pivotal theologian and philosopher in early Christianity. He is best known for his works "Confessions" and "The City of God." "Confessions," written around 400 AD, is an autobiographical work that details his sinful youth and conversion to Christianity. "The City of God," penned between 413 and 426 AD, defends Christianity against the claim that it led to the fall of Rome and presents his vision of a society aligned with Christian values. Augustine also served as the Bishop of Hippo from 396 AD until his death. His theological writings addressed original sin, grace, and the nature of the church, shaping Western Christianity's doctrines.
