Niels Bohr

Niels Bohr (1885-1962), Danish physicist, revolutionized atomic structure and quantum theory. In 1913, he proposed the Bohr model of the atom, introducing the theory that electrons travel in specific orbits around an atom's nucleus. Bohr's model integrated quantum mechanics with classical physics, explaining the spectral lines of hydrogen. In 1922, he received the Nobel Prize in Physics for his groundbreaking work. Bohr also played a pivotal role in the development of quantum mechanics and the principle of complementarity, which states that objects can exhibit particle-like and wave-like behavior. During World War II, he worked on the Manhattan Project and later advocated for peaceful applications of atomic energy. Bohr's contributions laid foundational stones for modern physics and quantum theory.
