Philip Roth

Philip Roth (1933-2018) was an American novelist known for his sharp, provocative explorations of Jewish identity, sexuality, and American life. His 1969 novel "Portnoy's Complaint" brought him widespread fame for its candid, humorous portrayal of a young man's sexual obsessions. Roth won the National Book Award for Fiction twice, first for "Goodbye, Columbus" in 1960 and later for "Sabbath's Theater" in 1995. His novel "American Pastoral" (1997) earned him the Pulitzer Prize, cementing his status as a major literary figure. Roth's deeply introspective and often controversial works distinguished him in 20th-century American literature.
