Soren Kierkegaard

Søren Kierkegaard (1813-1855) was a Danish philosopher and theologian, often considered the father of existentialism. He is best known for his works "Either/Or" (1843) and "Fear and Trembling" (1843), which explore complex themes of individuality, faith, and choice. Kierkegaard's critique of Hegelianism and his emphasis on subjective truth distinguished his philosophical approach. In 1849, he published "The Sickness Unto Death," where he delved into the human condition and the concept of despair. His pseudonymous writing style, using characters like Johannes de Silentio and Anti-Climacus, allowed him to explore different perspectives and ideas. Kierkegaard's profound influence on existentialist thought and modern theology remains significant. He died in Copenhagen on November 11, 1855.
