Alexander Graham Bell

Alexander Graham Bell (March 3, 1847 – August 2, 1922) was a Scottish-born inventor, scientist, and teacher of the deaf, best known for inventing the telephone. On March 7, 1876, Bell received the first US patent for the invention of an "improvement in telegraphy," which described the telephone. On March 10, 1876, he successfully made his first clear transmission of voice saying, “Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you.” Bell co-founded the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) in 1885. Additionally, he invented the photophone, a device that allowed the transmission of sound on a beam of light. In 1888, Bell helped establish the National Geographic Society, significantly contributing to its prominence as its second president.
