Despite its ubiquity under Bruce Lee's name on posters and quote sites, this line is not something Bruce Lee ever wrote or said — it does not appear in any of his documented writings, letters, or interviews, including the posthumous collections drawn from his notebooks (Tao of Jeet Kune Do, Artist of Life, Striking Thoughts). Its actual origin is the 1993 biopic Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, where it appears as the closing on-screen dedication to Bruce's son Brandon Lee, who had died in an accident on the set of The Crow weeks before the film's release. Production histories and the AFI Catalog record that director Rob Cohen chose the words — a line he had kept on the front of his script and believed came from Saint Augustine — as a tribute at the family's request; the credit to Bruce Lee comes purely from the words appearing over his life story on screen. Tellingly, the Bruce Lee organization's own podcast has flatly acknowledged the sentence "is not actually one of his quotes." Because a specific, documented origin outside Bruce Lee's authorship exists, this is a misattribution rather than merely an unsourced saying.
