John Muir

John Muir (1838–1914) was a prominent naturalist and conservationist, instrumental in the establishment of national parks in the United States. Born in Dunbar, Scotland, Muir immigrated to America in 1849. His extensive explorations of California's Sierra Nevada led to his influential book "The Mountains of California" (1894). In 1892, he co-founded the Sierra Club, becoming its first president and advocating for the preservation of wilderness areas. Muir’s efforts were crucial in the creation of Yosemite National Park in 1890. His prolific writings, including "My First Summer in the Sierra" (1911), vividly described the beauty of nature and argued for its protection. Muir’s work earned him the title "Father of the National Parks."
