Biography
Jawaharlal Nehru, born on November 14, 1889, in Allahabad, India, served as the first Prime Minister of India from August 15, 1947, until his death on May 27, 1964. A central figure in Indian politics, Nehru played a pivotal role in the Indian independence movement under the mentorship of Mahatma Gandhi. He was a principal architect of modern India's state and its secular, socialist policies.
Nehru's tenure saw the establishment of a parliamentary government and numerous educational institutions, including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). He authored the seminal book "The Discovery of India" during his imprisonment in 1942–1946, which provides a comprehensive history of Indian civilization. Nehru's leadership during the formative years of India's independence laid the foundation for its democratic and secular ethos.
