Biography
Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986) was an Argentine writer, essayist, and librarian, best recognized for his intricate and imaginative short stories. His seminal works include "Ficciones" (1944) and "El Aleph" (1949), collections that explore labyrinthine worlds and philosophical themes. In 1961, Borges gained international acclaim when he was awarded the first Formentor Prize, which he shared with Samuel Beckett. Borges also served as the director of the National Library of Argentina from 1955 to 1973, a position he held with great distinction.
