T. S. Eliot, an American-British poet, essayist, and playwright, is best known for his landmark poems "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" (1915) and "The Waste Land" (1922). Born on September 26, 1888, Eliot's innovative use of language and form revolutionized modernist poetry. His 1922 poem "The Waste Land" is noted for its fragmented structure and rich intertextuality. In 1948, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, recognizing his outstanding contributions to poetry. Eliot's play "Murder in the Cathedral" (1935) also stands out for its exploration of faith and martyrdom. He died on January 4, 1965, in London.
