Published in 1956, "Night" became a seminal work in Holocaust literature. In 1986, Wiesel received the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to combat indifference, intolerance, and injustice through his writing and advocacy. Additionally, he was the founding chairman of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council. Wiesel also authored over 40 books, encompassing novels, essays, and plays, which have been translated into numerous languages. He held the position of Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities at Boston University. less
