George Bernard Shaw, *Man and Superman* (1903), "Maxims for Revolutionists" in the appended "The Revolutionist's Handbook," under the heading "Stray Sayings"
Editorial Note
Working through the full text of *Man and Superman*, the line "There is no love sincerer than the love of food" appears in the "Maxims for Revolutionists" that Shaw appended to the play as part of "The Revolutionist's Handbook," not in the dramatic dialogue of Act I as one loose note suggested. That misplacement is a common error, but the maxim itself is genuinely present in Shaw's own published work, which settles the question of authorship. Direct reading of the 1903 volume confirms the wording. No credible competing author was found, and the sentiment is entirely consistent with Shaw's aphoristic style. Because the quote is traceable to a specific, dated primary source authored by Shaw, this attribution is verified.
